Whole Milk Mozzarella, Tomatoes, house-cut Pepperoni, Sweet & Hot Italian SausageAunt Shirley's Meatballs, , Prosciutto, Sopressata, Pancetta & Bacon

Yes, this pie has all the meats. But that's only partly why it's called "The Meathead".

First, the ingredients.  Our usual base of sliced whole milk mozzarella from {xxxxxxxxxx] and usual tomato suspects: GustaRosso San Marzano D.O.P.s, Bianco DiNapoli or First Field crushed tomatoes.

Natch, in-house cut Hormel Rosa Grande pepperoni, and both sweet and hot Italian sausage dollops from [xxxxxxx] cooked directly on the pie. My Aunt Shirley’s meatballs, lovingly made from beef, veal and pork and the same seasonings she’s been using for 70 years. We add on soppressata, pancetta and bacon, all from the fabulous Muncan Meat Market right here in Astoria. We top it off with Casella Prosciutto, added post bake to contrast the cooked meats.

So why “The Meat Head”?

The 70's TV show "All in The Family" was set in Astoria.  Archie Bunker called his son-in-law (played by Rob Reiner) "Meat Head".  I only dined once at famed Rao’s in East Harlem, the hardest reservation to get in all of NYC.  "Joey Superstar", who took over for Fat Tony Salerno (yeah, that Fat Tony Salerno), got me the table.  Rob Reiner was seated next to us.  My date said "hey - we're sitting next to Meat Head!!"  Rob Reiner was not pleased.  The meal was great. I've been blacklisted from Rao's. You think they’ve forgotten by now?  Me neither.
