Stracciatella, Sweet & Hot Italian Sausage, Candied jalapenos, Roasted Peppers & Onions
We start with both sweet and hot Italian sausage dollops from [xxxxxxx] cooked directly on the pie and add our roasted peppers + balsamic red onions. Just to add a contrast of heat & sweetness we throw on some candied jalapenos. Of course there’s our tomato sauce but instead of mozzarella, we’re using Stracciatella dropped liberally throughout the pie.
The Ravenite was a social club at 247 Mulberry St. where John Gotti and the upper echelon of the Gambino family met every Tuesday. When I had Lombardi's, I brought pies over every week at 4pm. John was already in prison at that time, so his brother Pete ran the show. Most times I would hand the pies off to a guy named Fat Mike a/k/a "Pickles", but every now and then I'd meet Pete directly. I hated this because Pete has one eye that wouldn't be inappropriate on a New Zealand Sand Flounder. I always looked him in the good eye, but eventually my gaze would wander. If you had told me back then that I’d lose Lombardi’s, work 3 doors down at Rubirosa at 235 Mulberry and then open Bellucci’s in Astoria, I would have told you your bed at Bellvue is waiting for you. Life is crazy. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
